Propylene glycol, also known as 1,2-propanediol, monopropylene glycol, 1,2-propylene glycol or MPG, is mainly produced by hydrolysis of propylene oxide and belongs to the group of polyvalent alkanols. It is used in various areas such as cosmetics, medicine, agriculture or as a humectant in tobacco products and is contained in a variety of everyday products such as toothpaste, skin creams, deodorants, lubricants or antifreeze.
